The best is yet to come
I have many people approach me and say something to the effect of “Ralf, you are so bubbly and enthusiastic”. In fact, I hear this a lot. Where does this come from? That’s really easy. The early part of my life was so miserable that I had had considerable time thinking about the purpose of life. There were days and weeks where I thought I could not endure that stuff any longer. What was it worth going on anyway?
When you are coming back out of such dark and lonely times, what typically happens is that you come out of it stronger. That is what happened to me. I always thought my mom had it even worse and she took me by the side and told me that no matter how miserable life is, I still had choices. One key choice she told me about was that I still had a choice to smile and be kind and considerate to others. No matter how little I thought I had, I had probably more than quite a few others.
She was so spot on with that. Since then I did make use of that God given choice. With this comes my call to action: Make good use of this choice. Choose your attitude well. Choose love, kindness, empathy, compassion. Treat others how you think they want to be treated (aka the Platinum Rule). Choose living your life to the fullest. When you think that you are alone, think again. You are never alone and the best is yet to come.
