Impressions from a pre Christmas season in Germany
Impressions from a pre Christmas season in Germany
It has been fascinating going back to my home town of Hameln Germany for the winter and pre Christmas season. That would be the town known internationally for the legend of the Pied Piper. I am mostly humbled by how old everything is and how traditions are being highly valued. Just look at the included pictures. This building here for instance stands in the middle of the city and dates back to the 1550s.
The Christmas market offers many culinary delights as well as many hand made goods. The cold weather lends itself to getting into the Christmas spirit. Many generations have lived and celebrated in the same fashion we enjoy this holiday here today.
Here are a few pictures of the local Hämelschenburg Castle. This dates back into the 1600s. It is amazing to be surrounded by so much history and tradition. Knowing yourself and where we have come from provides a sense of direction. It should not be viewed as a final destination, but it helps knowing which ways have worked in the past. Why re-invent the wheel again and again?
That is the thought I would like to leave you with today. Where have you come from and which of the tried and true ways have worked? Which ones did not? That is how you can provide your own legacy that your own family and friends can find their own best ways.
