What do you mean, you don’t have time? What we need is a time travel machine

Perhaps not, but how many times do you hear these words “I do not have time”? What does this really mean? Truth be told this most likely means we are not making the time rather than not having it.

Of that is so, the real reason why we do not have time is because of a lack in priority. Nothing tells you more about this when you have a significant crisis situation and you will get to know where your most basic priorities lie.

You also will experience that most things that we believe cannot (or should) be changed are swept to the side and the impact is less negative than we feared.

Often it is a health crisis that helps shift our minds. Here is a recent example from Michael Hyatt about his health crisis and what this did to his schedule and priorities. My own example dealt with going to evening college earning a dual bachelor’s degree whilst juggling a career and a young family. In simple terms, this was not going to work out at all.

I would often work late into the night as during the day there were so many interruptions that I felt I needed to do this “later”. Evening college literally meant going to the campus one night a week from 6 to 10 pm year round with few breaks. The rest of the week now needed to be divided into making sure that family got their well-deserved dose of Ralfi and doing homework as well as writing papers. There was just no room for extra work at done in the evening anymore. This was never going to work.

Guess what, of course it did work out. In fact going back to college was the best thing that happened to me. I had to let go of my workaholic ways in order to make time for the class research. 8 to 9 hours of work turned out to be enough to contend with the regular work. Some of the other work turned out to be not as important as I thought. The other work was better off getting delegated or deferred. Wow!

Before you carelessly say that you do not have time think about what is really important to you. Once you have set your sights on what that is, you will be able to make the time for this to happen. Of all things do not let health and family/ friendships slip on the priority scale – not dealing with this now will likely create the emergencies that you will take serious later.

  1. This is very true, Ralph. In the same way, I don’t have time to restart my gym sessions! 😉

Got a thought to share now that your snow globe got a shake?
