A very special birthday coming up – Our nation’s and a very special woman

A very special birthday coming up – Our nation’s and a very special woman Ralf a

Monday a very special birthday is coming up. Not only is it the 4th of July, the birthday of our nation. It’s also the 101st birthday of my grandma who was a very special person. She always asked herself John O’Leary’s life changing question: “What more can I do?”

She was one of five brothers and sisters born to poor farm help folks in a small German village on the Fourth of July 1913. Two heroic acts totally stick out. Her sister died shortly after giving birth to the second daughter – my mom. Her husband was not even around fighting at the Russian front towards the end of WWII. Here two little children were without a mom and because everybody was relatively poor they had to be split up and were taken care of by close relatives.

Erna now took it upon herself bringing the two children together at her sister’s home and taking care of the household and all other small farming jobs along the way. When granddad came back after the war they fell in love and eventually married after Erna got herself a divorce from her first husband. That by itself was a feat seldom achieved by women back then. She was very devoted to the children and loved them both like her own.

During the wartime she also took good care of around 20 prisoners of war in a forced labor camp on the premise. They were working in a sawmill next door under minimum security. Oma Erna could not stand them getting mistreated and not getting enough food so she smuggled this stuff over to them as much as she could.

“What more can I do?”, that has been her lifelong mantra until the day she fell and had multiple strokes permanently disabling her. What more can you do? Isn’t that a better question than “How much can I get?” Happy Birthday to nation and Oma Erna.

10 ways how to be a fountain and not a drain

10 ways how to be a fountain and not a drain fountain

It is so much easier to be a drain than to be a fountain. Of course that is not a literal reference, but it is a great analogy. When we are at our best we are a fountain of love, inspiration, empathy, compassion, creativity, and so many other positive attributes. Fountains symbolize refreshment, nourishment, and providing water as a life spending human resource. Fountains therefore help sustain life. They also represent beauty and many say they even are a source of good luck.

However, many, many people allow themselves becoming a drain to themselves and others. Just take some time at the airport, in traffic, and even at the grocery store and observe the sometimes really nasty interactions between total strangers. Ultimately, these folks are energy sinks – a drain of immense power. How about trouble with your spouse or your boss? That hits in the gut and heart, doesn’t it? You can literally feel the energy leaving your body and soul when you are close nasty people like this.

Ultimately though is your choice. Only you can choose to either take a positive route or the negative. Here a few ways how you can be that fountain to others:

  • Choose your attitude: Every morning and moment brings along a new choice for you to make. You can either choose to be miserable, or you can choose to smile and be full of joy. No, I am not saying you should fake this. No matter how miserable you think you have it, rest assure there are plenty of other people who have got it so much worse than you.
  • Make other people’s day: It is easier than you think. From random kinds of kindness to just being there for others when they need a boost will do wonders for the ones whom you are helping and your own self esteem.
  • Employ the Platinum Rule: I am sure you know the Golden Rule – treat others like you would be treated. Kick this up a notch or two. The Platinum Rule is treating others like they want to be treated. How do you know that other people like what you like? Is it not better to ponder how other people would like to be treated? Would this not make a much better first impression?
  • Play: Having genuine fun with others whether or not you are at home or at work is incredibly inspiring and uplifting. Ponder how you can generate a good solid mutual laugh with each other. Carry that out as much as your laughing muscles will bear it.
  • Be grateful: Gratitude is when you are truly humbled by the many gifted and talented people you get to meet on a daily basis. Gratitude is when you are truly grateful for your health, family, and friends. We have so much to be grateful for.
  • Share your talents: You impact more people than you think by what you do best. Share whatever talents you have and do it freely.
  • Volunteer: Let it be at school, church, hospitals, fire companies, local business associations, theater, special events, etc. Volunteering impacts the lives of many people and it feels great having made a difference for others.
  • Sleep: Huh? What does that have to do with being inspiring to others? That’s really simple: You had better sustain yourself and sleep as much as you can such that you have plenty of energy to expend.
  • Believe: Faith has a great impact on sustaining yourself. I find it all but impossible to be a fountain and not having a strong belief. Stock up on Faith and you will be inspiring to others and have the necessary integrity to do that for the long haul.
  • Ask what you may bring – not what you can get: In anything you do with and for others make sure you demonstrate your servitude attitude. Serving others is key to advance yourself. Yes, you serve the ones you may be in charge of. Be open, collaborative, inquisitive, and help break down barriers for the people whom you serve. Give and you shall be given.

Don’t be a drain like this woman (click to watch video). Fear, hatred, bitterness, too much ego drain your personality and reputation straight into the gutter. Sometimes it may be fun and also lucrative to let those bad feelings and thoughts direct you through the day. Ultimately, you allow those dark forces to lower, if not destroy your potential.

That’s when you see a fountain make sure to think of what you will do today to inspire others to also do their best in becoming one too.

If you want to go on adventure you cannot lie in bed all day

Summertime is here and hopefully you have made plans to go places. We are so blessed living in a country that has got so much to see and experience. One thing that I keep encouraging especially young folks is to go to new places. Meet new people. See new cities. If at all possible go and see different countries and cultures. Go camping. Take an RV to travel around. Make a point of seeing as many as possible national parks. Go try see and experience all 50 States we are blessed to have.

How many people do you know who tell you that they are all up for adventure and then never go? How many would rather stick around at home and not go outside your county? How many of those people cannot get off the sofa or bed and away from the TV or computer screen?

  • Travel helps recharge your batteries. Getting away from it all makes a huge impact on how well you feel.
  • Travel encourages synchronicity. Who knows whom you are destined to meet along the way of your travels? Believe in coincidence? I do not. Our paths cross for a certain reason.
  • Travel broadens your horizon. No pun intended as I mean this more on the side of getting to know how many different ways the anything can be done. Therefore, it drives up tolerance for other people and how they see and do stuff. Fewer conflicts and even wars would happen if we all went and met with how every human just wants to be happy, safe, and content as well.
  • Travel gets you involved in totally different circles of people. Advancement in life comes from not whom you know, but who knows you.
  • Travel lets you experience gratitude and a sense of space. How blessed we truly are hits home best when you are on the road and physically get a feel for it. The sheer size and variety of our culture and the many different marvelous sites makes for a very humbling experience.

Go out and travel. As stressful as life can be, it is uplifting and incredibly refreshing to do something different even if at first it may take some effort to get going. Life is too great to waste it on the sofa or bed.

Is there such a thing as coincidence? Two ways initiating predictable miracles

Is there such a thing as coincidence? Two ways initiating predictable miracles Ralf a

Miracles occur when needs and solutions converge. Convention says that miracles happen coincidentally. Is there such a thing as coincidence though? Most people just accept a matter as coincidence and do not think twice about it. Really smart folks dig a little deeper and follow up with the people involved. There are an increasing number of people who believe that it may even be possible creating circumstances leading to predictable miracles. Here are two ideas of how you can initiate them.

In order to be able to creating a conduit for needs and solutions to emerge in front of you and still maintaining the element of coincidence (this is truly organic growth), you will first and foremost need to ponder what your purpose is. The moment you ask yourself this question, you will be on the path to a better and brighter future.

Imagine what gives you energy and what you really want to be and do. Think about your future needs that will help pave the way to get there. Journal about this daily and reflect upon this list frequently. Develop a mental picture what the final result might look like in 9-12 months from now.

Now comes the part that you need to feel comfortable with: Share this picture with acquaintances, friends, co-workers, family, etc. Do this freely. The more you think and talk about it, the more you think and solidify your own mental picture. You become intensely focused on what truly matters to you.

Make a list of 9-18 people you look up to. Meet with these folks for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Do not ask for favors; ask for them to listen to you and to be candid with their feedback. Share your vision and mission, your purpose freely. Bring the future into the present by bringing it alive. Keep your journal up to date.

Now you have tilled the ground and sowed the seed of synchronicity – that is coincidence at its best. Because you know your intentions and you have shared them, people and opportunities will start crossing your path. This may not happen immediately, but in the long run this is a recipe that you can follow with almost guaranteed success.

What are you waiting for? Give it a go, you cannot lose here and how cool is it to create your own coincidental predictable miracles?
