8 things helping enrich your life and that of the people in your life 

We are blessed beyond measure with all the different people who come into our life. Keeping your talents to yourself is not only selfish, but you are wasting your life’s potential away. Even if you consider yourself to be an introvert, you still cannot ignore the fact that we humans are a very social bunch who managed to survive a lot better as a community. Singling yourself out is all but unnatural and most certainly will limit what life has got to offer for everyone of us. Here are 8 examples of how you can turn this situation around.

  • Be prudent with the time you spend at work. Have you ever seen a gravestone engraved with a sentence like this: “I wished I could have spent another hour at the office”? Try achieving a healthy work / family / social activity balance. Who needs you the most?
  • Go to your kid’s activities. Do not lead a life of regret. Kids grow up so fast that you will lose track of time in a heartbeat and before you know it they will be out of the house. Spend as much time with them and do not miss any of their school and leisure time activities. This time will never come back.
  • Travel as much as your budget and time will allow. The world is out there for us to experience. People and places are different from where you currently live and you only need to go a few miles for starters checking out a different county or state. Comparing and contrasting your life and environment add to the spice of life. You will see that we people are really not much different as far as our basic needs and aspirations are concerned. All the while nature, architecture, culture, food, work, etc can be dramatically different. Getting to know that there are more than one way to look at things helps build a mutual understanding and thus our tolerance for others goes up as well.
  • Volunteer your time and talents. Give without expecting anything back in return and you will be given and provided for beyond measure. Your gratitude and servitude will make others better off and you will feel great about yourself. Topping this list off is that you never know whom you will bump into who just may change your life forever.
  • Pay it forward and carry out random acts of kindness. Is it not sad if at the end of each day you have to admit to yourself that you have not been able to one kind thing for another person? Change this as fast as you can. You will feel great and you are giving someone reason for renewed hope. Don’t you like it when others recognize your existence?
  • Share your best skill or expertise with others. There is no excuse for you not to share your talents with others. Social media allow for you to do this with little to no cost. Local business associations, interest groups, Scouts, etc always look for people who can present on a relevant topic. Here is a chance for you to make provide information and training to others, you also raise your net worth with your employer. You brush up on presentation skills and at the same time people will always seek more of your advice.
  • Limit your time spent watching TV, computer, cell phone, etc. Much like the above comment about work here are just some of the many activities that your mind and life go into full blast inactive mode. They are a total waste of time. Read a book, take a walk, but for heaven’s sake do not let your life go into idle mode.
  • Be physically active. An idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Physically, there is a similar issue. We sit and rest way too much. Get up and get going, join a gym, participate in physical activity opportunities at work. Getting the bad juices out your system by exercising is a terrific stress and depression buster.

We are blessed beyond measure living in a country full of helpful people and organizations. You have no one but yourself in your way to grow socially and professionally. Here is my call to action for you to live to your full potential – all you have to do is to give your talents to others.

How to focus using the prism effect 

Prisms help gather and concentrate light to a single point. Then the light spreads out again. The same prism effect can happen to people who want to develop themselves.

I our noisy world it is easy to get side tracked and off course to what life could and should be. The situation improves the moment you stop and ponder your purpose and how you can get there. Starting point is the vision of where you want to go with it.

That is the focal point of the prism I am talking about. Focus. Shrinking it down to the one thing you are meant to become and refining that is tough work and may take months and perhaps even years. In this process you are sorting out all the bunny trails that may be fun but do not lead to where you want to go. Focus. There are dead ends, there are detours, there is a ton of chatter along the way, there will be nothing but distractions (just think electronics for a sec), and there are your roles in family, work and social life that can easily side track you. Again: Focus!

Once you have this laser like focus and you have eliminated your distractions you will get to experience the prism effect. When you are living and working from a true state of being you exude it in everything you do. People will all of a sudden pay attention to you.

Here is the prism effect in prose:

It makes you much more effective at work and with all your other activities.

It lets you become a valued resource to others in life.

It gives you self-sustaining energy without stress.

It lays the foundation for synchronicity to occur.

It makes sense to others what you say and do.

It provides direction for you and others.

It lets you connect with more people.

It tells people where you stand.

It builds self-confidence.

It builds sex appeal.

It builds trust.

If you want to change course in life the most successful way is to slow down and focus on the one thing that describes your purpose best. Do not take my word for it though; try it yourself and be just as fascinated when you discover the power that lies within you.

Work on your business and not in it


Work on your business and not in it 

Are you in busyness or business? To do lists will survive us. Your purpose and enthusiasm for your business may not. Seriously, your own and your company’s why is the only reason you exist. Unfortunately, our day-to-day hustle-bustle activities very often prevent us looking up and actually be working on ourselves and our organizations.

In the event we do not make time for connecting with our purpose, it will catch up with us. On a personal level we may experience burn out or perhaps even a midlife crisis. Organizations may grow in spite of themselves but employee turnover may increase and the overall morale may deteriorate so much that customers start leaving eventually.

This craziness can be stopped. First you need to stop yourself from constantly putting out the “fires” around you. Some folks have gotten so good at that that they resort to creating their own fires that they then must put out. Are you sick and tired of constantly making decisions for even the most mundane tasks? It is time to make room in your calendar for pondering the following questions:

  • What would happen to me and my organization if nothing changes during the next 12 months?
  • What will the consequences be?
  • Where would I like my organization (department, etc) and myself to be in 12 to 36 months?
  • What will keep me from getting there?
  • What gives me energy?

Now compare and contrast your answers. The toughest part – the start of your new journey – has been done. Following up with the resulting tasks consistently and frequently is your next big priority.

Do you think you do not have time to plan? Realize that you get what you tolerate and you spend 80% of your valuable time in fire fighting mode based on only 20% of the problems that exist in your organization instead of putting all your oomph into proactively mapping out your future. It’s all about prioritizing everything you do. Do you still think that you do not have time for this? Imagine that you hurt yourself and need to see a doctor really quick. You did not plan for this and yet you are finding the time anyway. You will make time for taking care of your health, right? Elevate your why and a plan how to get to fulfill it to that kind of a priority and watch tremendous growth start right before your eyes.

8 key characteristics of great conscious leaders 

Entrepreneurship and leadership are fun, but they also can be a huge challenge. How do you grow your business in a way that is long term sustainable whilst also rendering enough profits such that you can invest in your people and infrastructure? How do you do this without totally giving your own life up because you have to work exorbitant hours? How will your family see you again and how will you manage stress to a manageable level?

Chances are that you have asked yourself these questions over and over again. Regardless whether you are the key leader in a small business or are the CEO of a large corporation the questions are typically very similar. Fortunately, the answers are amazingly simple as well. Key question here is only how comfortable you are to commit yourself to opening your organization up to an open platform. The more you are ready to open up to true collaboration the greater the chance that you will soon enjoy your co-leaders and employees becoming your co-entrepreneurs.

What I am inferring here is that you have the opportunity developing your own brand that can become self-sustainable. This allows you to focus on planning the future development of your organization without you having to worry about that the day-to-day operation goes awry without you being there. It helps reducing your stress and that of everyone in your organization.

  1. Start with a quality product of service: Absolute important is having a quality product and/ or service to start with. Do not get this wrong and mixed up with clever or really unique. Excellent execution of what you have to offer to customers is essential in making sure that there is long term sustainability for your organization.
  2. Ego management: Skip this blog if you are not willing to of your ego. Long term sustainability can only happen when you as the leader are willing to not be the only one who speaks, directs, manages, generates ideas, etc. Egomaniacs make for miserable working conditions and no one needs another toxic work place.
  3. Safe working place: This is more than the physical safety at work. I am speaking about candor. Candor is the best antidote to your ego and that of others. Only when it is safe to speak about your company’s challenges will you get to the bottom of what your folks will need to fix.
  4. Communication management: Great conscious leaders make a huge commitment to open communication. Department meetings held regularly and also allowing for your managers meeting with their team members one on one regularly will provide ample information about where and how your organization and people need help. If you are really good, you will hold weekly company meetings where everybody can get a pulse of the organization and where their contributions make a difference.
  5. Collaboration heaven: Collaboration amongst your leadership team is just as important as allowing for this to happen with your customers and all of your employees. How else can you tap into the brain power and creativity of the people who do the front line work every day? Create a conduit and place where this information exchange can happen at strategic and tactical level, step back, and be ready to be amazed what your folks can help create.
  6. Servitude: This point of course assumes that you have made it beyond point 2. above. Really great leaders realize that they need to view their role as the one who serves the folks who work for them. That does not means that leaders must do the work of the people reporting to them. What is more important than anything else here is that the team members feel respected, are taking seriously, and that their contributions count. Helping develop your employees by helping them excel increases the trust in you and the company and makes for very loyal followers – team members and customers alike.
  7. Showing up: Great leaders have another thing in common. They keep showing up for not only the fun stuff, but especially for any of the tough occasions too.
  8. Commitment management: First and foremost that is your commitment to invest all your efforts to make the changes happening that your team members helped develop. That fosters even more trust and ensures your organization making a lot of progress. Once your team knows that when they come together and help co-create their future with you and you deliver the commitment allowing for continual improvement to occur, you will enjoy success almost guaranteed.

This is not an easy road to travel and definitely not a fast one. It represents a cultural change and those typically take a few years to fully come around to full fruition. If you expect your people to change, make sure asking yourself first how you must change. Invite your team members – and I mean all of them – to help collaborate about if and how / what kind of changes need to be made in order to serve your organization’s purpose (your “why”). Then leave them be, check your ego at the front door and be ready to be amazed how many people step forward with the desire helping to achieve your growth goals.
